Father-of-Three Aged FIFTY is Asked to Prove He is Over 18 While Buying Alcohol

A youthful-looking 50-year-old was left stunned when he was asked for ID as he tried to buy a bottle of whisky at a supermarket.

Father-of-three Charles Brown was asked to prove he was old enough to buy the alcohol by a female cashier at his local Morrison's store.

Mr Brown, whose oldest child is 30, thought she was joking but when he told her his age she still was not convinced.

She called a manager who also insisted on seeing some ID after Mr Brown told her his age.

Morrison’s has a policy of challenging customers to prove they are over the age of 25 before they are allowed to buy alcohol.

After some convincing, forklift driver Mr Brown managed to walk out of the store with his bottle of Grant’s.
He said: 'I’m 50 and I can take it as a compliment but it has gone too far. I know I don’t look 50 but I don’t look 24.

I’ve got a daughter at 30, a son at 28 and my youngest at 17.

'Fair enough I’m slim built, I’m tallish and the way I dress is quite casual, a younger person’s trend sort of thing, but that shouldn’t put me at the age of 24.'

Mr Brown, whose oldest child is 30, thought the cashier was joking but when he told her his age she still was not convinced

Mr Brown, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, said people normally guess he is 15 years younger than his real age.

He said: 'My dad didn’t look his age and my mum died relatively young and out of my six siblings I am the oldest, but I’ve been told I look the youngest.

'Once I went out and somebody asked my daughter if I was her boyfriend and she said "Don’t be silly - it’s my dad".

'I’ve been on holiday with my wife and other people have thought I was my wife’s toyboy.'

A Morrison’s spokesman said: 'We are required by law to police the sale of alcohol and take our responsibility very seriously.

'As part of this, we have adopted Challenge 25, a policy of asking for identification from anyone who doesn’t look over the age of 25.

'We hope Mr Brown took the request as a compliment as he must look very young for his age.'

While it is legal in the UK for anyone over 18 to purchase alcohol many retailers follow the Challenge 25 protocol.

Challenge 25 encourages anyone who is over 18 but looks under 25 to carry acceptable ID when they want to buy alcohol.

Mr Brown has three children - Natasha, 30, Ethan, 28, and Evont’e, 17. He is married to midwife Tracey.

Couple Transform Former Railway Carriages Into Three Holiday Homes

It's a first class idea offering an alternative to other accommodation out there. The Old Station in Allerston, North Yorkshire, which used to be a working railway station has been converted into a family home and guest house.

The idea has proved a hit with visitors, evoking romantic images of the great age of steam, Brief Encounter and The Orient Express.

The station comprises three self-catering railway carriages that don't look out of place in an area so enthusiastic about trains. But they have been refurbished and are now luxurious lodgings for locals and visitors.

The guest house business is owned by couple Carol and Mark Benson. 'We were looking to set up a lodgings business in the area and I liked the station immediately,' said mother-of-two Carol, 54.

'I found this place and said to my husband 'I want to buy it. It's very sad and rundown.

'The problem, as my husband pointed out was, 'where are we going to put the people?, and then it came to me - in the carriages of course! The rest is history.'

The station now welcomes people of all ages, with children arriving during school holidays and retired people throughout the year.

The 45-year-old carriages are historically First Class and offer a kitchen, lounge, two or three bedrooms and a bathroom too, with central heating and mod-cons such as TVs and DVD players.

The carriages also retain many features from their days as active train carriages. Carol said: 'We really did keep the railway feel. People know they are on a train.

When they go to the toilet the light comes on it the carriageway saying 'engaged'.

'We really put a lot of attention into detail. The communication cord is still there. If somebody pulls it I come round and collect £50 - that's the threat anyway!'

Carol and husband Mark, 55, who still has a day job as a surveyor for Network Rail, made the railway station itself their home.

'It's just as it was when it was a working station,' she said.  'We step out the door onto the platform and the carriages are situated as if they are pulling into the station - but they don't move.'

The Old Station is on the 16-mile Forge Valley Line, which was opened by the North Eastern Railway Company on May 1, 1882. The last passenger train on the line ran on June 3, 1950.

Such has been the success of The Old Station, which opened 17 years ago, comparable ventures are being set up in the railway-mad region.

'Well, since converting the carriages, we've noticed there have been a few more set up nearby, which isn't such a surprise!' Carol continued.

'We're okay with it, anyway, we enjoy a bit of competition!' And to describe The Old Station in three words? Carol said: 'Oh that's easy! 'First Class accommodation!'

A Beverly Hills cop allegedly sneaked a peek at Whitney Houston's dead body and then ogled out loud ... but law enforcement sources tell us the allegation is bogus.

Weir says he complained to his supervisor shortly after Houston died. But law enforcement sources tell us ... Weir NEVER uttered a peep about the alleged incident. There is NO record of any complaint ... period. We're told cops didn't ever know Weir had beef until they heard about it Monday.

One law enforcement source calls Weir's complaint "sour grapes."

Weir says he's been harassed and stripped of privileges since allegedly reporting the incident.

Drake's expensive jewelry collection is coming back to bite him in the ass -- a famous jeweler is suing him over a $50,000 owl pendant ... claiming Drake illegally made knockoffs of it for his friends.

The jeweler Baden Baden Inc. (owned by designer Michael Raphael) filed the lawsuit, claiming Drizzy hired the company to make a custom diamond-studded platinum owl pendant back in January ... and paid $49,204.

Another Gator Record Broken In Mississippi - This Time At 741-Pounds It's The States Heaviest And Longest

Mississippi's state record for the heaviest and longest alligator has been broken once again - less than a week after the previous records were smashed.

Beth Trammell of Madison took the title for Mississippi’s heaviest alligator with her 723.5-pound harvest, only to be bested an hour later by Dustin Bockman of Vicksburg with his massive 727-pound beast.

But this weekend, a new state record was captured by hunter Dalco Turner of Gluckstadt.

Man Invents Bicycle elevator, lets You Cycle Up To 30-Foot High Treehouse in 30 Seconds

Grown tired of climbing a 30-foot ladder to his treehouse, Ethan Schlussler decided he needed to invent something that could take him up in a fraction of the time.

The inventive 22-year-old from Sandpoint, Idaho, quickly hit upon about the idea of developing a bicycle-powered ‘elevator’ which now allows him to pedal himself up in 30 seconds flat.

Once Ethan had hit upon the ingenious idea, it took him a couple of attempts to get his unusual elevator just right.

After developing the basic idea in his head, Schlussler set about modifying his bicycle by welding pieces of scrap metal to the frame so he could attach points and pulleys.

‘After the first trial run, it became clear that the gear ratio was not nearly low enough, as I could not even pedal it up the tree at all.’
‘First, I changed the gear ratio on the bicycle by swapping a large front sprocket to the rear, which was still not quite easy enough to pedal, so I added a pulley into the system to gain a bit more [mechanical] advantage,' he said.

'Once I had the counterweight adjusted, it worked better than I could have hoped.'

To counterweight the bicycle, Schlussler has used an old water heater tank which can be adjusted by simply adding or removing water.

The process of constructing the bicycle elevator took less than a week.

Schlussler is still finishing construction on his tree house that he can now more easily access via his bicycle. He plans to install walls and insulation in the next few weeks, with the ultimate goal of sleeping and, perhaps eventually, living full-time in his 30-foot high outdoor home.

Sex Attacker Told His Victim He Was Taking Her To A Saturdays Concert, Wheeled Her Unconscious Body Into Hotel Where He Raped Her For Nine Hours

A businessman who told a woman he was taking her to a Saturdays concert instead drugged her, put her in a wheelchair and pushed her a hotel where he raped her for nine hours.

Lloyd Phillips, 48, plied his 22-year-old victim with a cocktail of drugs and alcohol that left her suffering seizures as he drove her to Wembley Stadium.

Phillips owned a luxury Sunseeker boat, which he bought with the £10,000-a-week takings from his legal-high and gig ticket shop.

He was well-known on the social scene in his home city of Southampton, where he impressed women with his spending and lavish lifestyle.

But he has now been jailed for 11 years for his depraved attack, which left his victim suffering nightmares and feeling 'sick'.

The court heard he picked her up from her home, and gave her a capsule and a can of the high-alcohol 'Crunk' juice to wash it down.

The drug was found to be controlled substance BZP, a stimulant that can trigger epileptic seizures and fits.

It had such an effect on the woman that she was left with little memory of the car journey to the hotel near London's Wembley Stadium.

Footage from a CCTV camera shows him pushing the woman into the hotel, as she slumps forward in the chair, with his bag resting on her legs.

He is then seen wheeling her towards a lift and their room, where he carried out the catalogue of abuse throughout the night.

The woman, who had once regarded Phillips as a friend, lay motionless on the bed, unaware of the sickening attack, Harrow Crown Court heard.

Aside from a brief memory of a clock that read '3.48' and a feeling that she was 'contorted', the woman had no memory of what happened.

She woke confused, with Phillips telling her they had engaged in a night of consensual sex, the jury heard.

It was some 24 hours later that the effects of the drug began to wear off and the full, horrifying impact of what had happened to her started to emerge.

Feeling ill, unable to use the lavatory, and with her tongue and her arms bruised, she went to hospital where doctors called police.

Phillips was convicted of two counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.

A$AP Rocky Charged With Simple Assault For Allegedly Slapping Female Fan In Philadelphia.

Rapper A$AP Rocky -- the guy behind the hit "F**kin' Problems" -- has been slapped with an assault in Philadelphia after allegedly slapped a female fan this weekend .

 The alleged victim, a young mom, filed a criminal complaint with the District Attorney's Office today claiming she was attending the Made In America concert on Saturday when the rapper got violent.

The woman claims A$AP was trying to make his way through a crowd of dancing fans -- with a bunch of girls pulling on his shirt -- when A$AP turned and fired off an open-hand slap, connecting with her face.

The woman claims she was injured from the alleged slap -- suffering whiplash from the impact. The D.A.'s office reviewed the case and has decided to charge A$AP with misdemeanor simple assault.

Rapper Tyga Accused of Jacking $91K Worth of Grade 'A' Bling

Tyga is rolling around town with some sick jewelry -- a diamond watch and chain worth more than $91,000 -- but problem is the bling ain't his ... at least according to a lawsuit filed by a famous Beverly Hills jeweler.

In the suit, Jason of Beverly Hills claims the rapper agreed to drop $28,275 for the jeweler's diamond pantheon watch back in August, 2012.

JBH also claims Tyga -- real name Michael Stevenson -- borrowed a $63,000 diamond Cuban link chain in December, 2012 -- but never returned the piece.

Now JBH is suing for the cost of both pieces, plus late fees ... which just about doubles Tyga's tab to a whopping $185,306.50.

Cyclist Whose Bike was Stolen Steals It Back And Leaves Behind A Cardboard Cut-Out And Snarky Note For The Thief

 

 A cyclist has taught a bike thief a lesson after he found his friend's stolen bicycle locked up in the street - and replaced it with a cardboard one.

Known as Festethejeste on Reddit, the Toronto friend helped get the bike back using tools to cut through the lock and then left the cardboard cut-out and a tongue-in-cheek letter to the bike thief.

The letter explained how the friends had found the bike and why they were taking it back.

'You rascal!' the letter addresses the bike thief, adding: 'You took my bike earlier this week but forgot to tell me where you'd leave it!'
he letter goes on to explain that the friend recognised the bicycle because he is a mechanic and has serviced the bike several times.

The friends write that they are leaving the (cardboard) replacement until the thief can afford their own real bike.

Further details of the story are revealed in the Reddit feed, where Festethejeste posted the pictures of the cyclists' revenge. His friend's bike was stolen from the Christie Pits area in Toronto.

When questioned about whether they could be certain it was his friend's stolen bike, he said: '...the bike is 100 per cent, without a shadow of a doubt property of my friends (sic). I did him a favour and I already own these tools (to break the lock) because I run a bike shop.'

He claimed the police in Toronto are often 'busy and to be honest don't have the time or resources to deal with this stuff'.

The friend goes on to explain that bike theft is a big problem in Toronto and thieves appear to buy lots of the same kind of lock and leave stolen bikes on the street so they can't get caught with them on their property.

He said: '... there were other bikes locked up and down the street with the exact same unlock...'

He said this tactic was common in Toronto and was used by Canada's infamous prolofic bike thief Igor Kenk, who is now servign time for his stealing. The friend said Kenk would lock stolen bikes up all along Queen Street for blocks.

When questioned about whether the bike had already been sold to another cyclist, the Reddit user said he would 'gladly work with the person that bought the stolen bike to nab the thief if they exist'.

He added: 'I'm willing to bet that they don't though. As mentioned bike thieves do this "lock up stolen bikes in public" thing all the time in Toronto.'
