Boko Haram Launch Daring Attack On Military Barrack- Saharareporters

Islamist militant sect Boko Haram today launched a daring attack on an army base -Giwa Barack- in Maiduguri by water and land in an attempt to free members detained in the barrack.

The sect members drove in a convoy to attack the barrack and also reportedly penetrated the barrack through a river channel at the back of the base.  Security sources told SaharaReporters that the attack was severe and that the sect succeeded in freeing some of its members detained at the barrack.

Several large explosions were heard throughout the city during the duration of the raid.

Students of the university of Maiduguri thought the attack was targeted at the university, but our sources said the sect mainly used the back of the university to launch attacks against the army barrack.

Two military jets were scrambled to ward off to ward off the attacks. One military source counted 22 corpses lying around in from of the barrack. The dead were members of the sect rounded up and killed by soldiers at an army base as they prepared to flee after the attack.

An army source said the sect succeeded in bombing the armory in the barracks causing huge explosions that were heard around the city.

Several soldiers were killed and injured, but the military authorities would not reveal the number of dead or injured soldiers in the attack.

A group of vigilantes known as “Civilian JTF” later swung into action around the university of Maiduguri capturing some of the escaped prisoners and promptly handing them over to the army.

Man Caught With 18 Human Skulls In Ogun State

The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, nabbed a 38-year-old man, Adelani Ayomide, with a bag containing 18 human skulls.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the suspected ritualist was arrested at 6:48am, yesterday, on Ado-Odo, Owode Road by policemen attached to a division in Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

Adejobi said: “Policemen attached to Ado-Odo Division, while on a stop-and-search exercise along Ado-Odo Owode Road sighted a pedestrian, Adelani Ayomide, 38, of Ilaro, Ogun State with a bag containing 18 human heads.

“The suspect will be transferred to the state department of investigation, Eleweran Abeokuta, for discrete investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye has assured of a thorough investigation and that he will make sure the suspect faces the full wrath of the law and assist in getting other suspects in connection with the crime.”

Thief: Fake Prophet Arrested In Lagos For Defrauding Church Members

 

 Chuks Samson Obasi, who for many months paraded himself as Dr. Chris Okafor, the General Overseer of Mountain of Liberation & Miracle Ministry, (Liberation City) has been arrested for serially defrauding people seeking for miracles.

Okafor, 33, was arrested on Sunday March 9th by Liberation City security operatives, who had been getting complaints from several victims of Mr Okafor. He was nabbed and handed over to the police when he came to the church to collect money from another victim who was set as bait for him.

Stupid Woman: 'I Thought Only People In Africa Got HIV,' Says Mother-Of-Three Who Contracted The Condition After Summer Romance

A mother-of-three who had unprotected sex says she never dreamed she was at risk of HIV - because 'only African people could get it'.

Rachel Dilley, 48, developed the condition nearly a decade ago. Appearing on ITV's This Morning to discuss her diagnosis, she said she hadn't realised at the time that 'white people had ever had it'.

She told amazed hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that the risks had genuinely never crossed her mind. It was in 2004, just short of her 40th birthday, when she embarked on online dating, having split from her partner of 20 years and the father of her children the year before.

She began dating a man called Simon* and said the pair seemed to click and get on well.

Over the course of the summer, their relationship progressed physically. But because of her age, she says she knew she wouldn't get pregnant - so didn't think about protection. 

But she also hadn't given a second thought to HIV. 'I didn't know anything about it - I didn't know it was even possible to catch it,' she explained. When quizzed by Philip Scofield about how sex education campaigns and messages had passed her by, she admitted they simply had. 

Within a few months, the relationship between Ms Dilley and Simon was over - and shortly afterwards she began to feel unwell. 'I had swollen glands, a sore throat, a temperature and couldn't eat properly,' she recalled. 

'It was like a really severe bout of the flu.' After tests were inconclusive, it was suggested - to her surprise - she should take an HIV test.

'I thought "why?",' she explained. 'I just didn't know anything about it - I just thought you got it in Africa. I didn't know a white person had ever got it.'

Her comments were described by Philip as 'extremely naive'.

She went on to explain that a week after taking the test, she received the devastating news that she was, indeed, HIV positive. 'I felt like I was walking into a black hole - and my first words were "am I going to die"?

  

'It sounds stupid now - as now I know that HIV is not a death sentence.

'My children, who were teenagers at the time, took the news well - as did my mother when she was alive.'

But she added not everyone has been fine about her diagnosis. 'A friend's daughter didn't want me near her baby. It did upset me at the time, but it just shows that, like me, she wasn't educated on it either.'

Today, Ms Dilley takes two drugs in the morning and one in the evening and tries to keep her immune system strong.

She also admitted she 'doesn't have much to do with men' - and said people of all ages need to be more aware of the risks of HIV.

'I will not be defined by it [my illness] - people love me for who I am,' she added.

After partying up a storm at London's exclusive Cirque Le Soir nightclub the previous evening, the on-off couple headed up north to All Star Lanes, where they enjoyed a fun-filled evening out after Drake's performance at the city's Phones4U Arena on Tuesday night.

The pair were spotted leaving the venue at 4.30am alongside numerous members of their respective entourages, but once again, made sure they weren't photographed together as they headed home for the evening.

Big Insults: Bugaje Says Nigeria’s Crude Oil Belongs To The North!

One of the lead speakers at the Northern Leaders’ Conference, Usman Bugaje, has raised a controversial issue on the ownership of Nigeria’s crude oil domiciled majorly in the Niger Delta region.

According to him, it is wrong for any state to claim that it is oil producing because 72% of the total land mass in the country belonged to the North and that by the United Nation’s law; it is only the North that actually has the right to claim ownership.

Dr. Bugaje, in his presentation, insisted that “there are no oil producing states.” He argued that “the only oil producing state is the Nigerian state itself.”

He explained, “Whatever mileage you get in the sea, according to the United Nations Law of the sea, is a measure of the land mass that you have; that is what gives you the mileage into the sea…and the land mass of this country, that gives that long 200 nautical miles or more into the ocean, is because of that 72% of the land mass of this country, which is the North.”

To buttress his argument, Dr. Bugaje also said, “The investment came from the Nigerian state and the territory belongs to the Nigerian state.”

He further maintained, “What they claim is the off shore oil is actually the oil of the North” contending that “we should stop using these terms that have no sense at all. There are no oil producing states.”

'I Asked Oscar If He Was Mad. He Just Laughed': Friend Recalls Moment Pistorius Fired Gun Out Of Car Sunroof As Athlete Keeps Sick Bucket On Standby In The Dock

 Oscar Pistorius has a 'big love' of weapons and laughed after firing his gun out of the sunroof of a car, his murder trial heard today.

One of the Paralympian's friends, Darren Fresco, testified about two occasions when the athlete fired guns for which he is charged with firearms offences.

In the first incident, Mr Fresco said he was driving when Pistorius put his gun through the open sunroof of the car and fired without warning, causing him to flinch and 'duck down'.

Mr Fresco told the court: 'I asked him if he was f****** mad. It felt as if my ear was bleeding.

'I had a constant ringing in my left ear. He just laughed about what had just happened.'

He said Pistorius was furious after a police officer had earlier picked up his gun when the car Mr Fresco was driving was stopped for speeding, reportedly at 160mph.

Mr Fresco said Pistorius told the officer: 'You can't just touch another man's gun.

'Now your fingerprints are all over my gun. So if something happens, you're going to be liable.'

Mr Fresco said the altercation ended and they drove away with Samantha Taylor, the runner's girlfriend at the time, who has given a similar account of the episode to the court.

In the second incident, Mr Fresco told of the time he handed Pistorius his gun in a packed restaurant and it went off in the athlete's hand a month before he killed Reeva Steenkamp.

He said he had warned the runner that the gun was 'one-up' - meaning there was a bullet in chamber.

Explaining why he felt comfortable giving the gun to Pistorius, Mr Fresco said: 'We had been to the shooting range before and I knew he had a big love of weapons... my assumption was that he had competency'.

The bullet slightly grazed the toe of another friend, boxer Kevin Lerena, who testified last Wednesday.

Pistorius then asked Mr Fresco to take the blame because he feared the media hype, which Fresco agreed to do 'with pleasure', he said.

Pistorius denies the two firearms charges, plus a further one of illegal possession of unlicensed ammunition, as well as the murder charge.

Earlier, the court heard that Miss Steenkamp ate at around 1am on the night she died, around three hours after Oscar Pistorius claims the couple went to bed, according to the pathologist.

Continuing his testimony for a second day, Gert Saayman said the partially digested vegetables he found in the model's stomach suggested she had food less than two hours before her death at around 3am.

He was being cross-examined by defence lawyer Barry Roux, who will need to explain how Miss Steenkamp ate at that time if the couple had gone to bed at 10pm, as the Paralympian has said.

Prof Saayman said he has performed between 10,000 and 15,000 post mortem examinations over his 30-year career, but yesterday admitted his interpretation 'wasn't an exact science'.

Pistorius appeared in better spirits today, but had a sick bucket on standby in case there was a repeat of yesterday when harrowing evidence of Miss Steenkamp's injuries made him physically ill.

Mr Roux questioned Prof Saayman's methods, asking what medical texts he had consulted in reaching his conclusion about the food.

Prof Saayman said his findings were a 'synthesis' of his own professional experiences and observations in addition to consultation of past studies.

The pathologist also said the amount of urine in Steenkamp's bladder at the time of her death amounted to the rough equivalent of a teaspoon.

The evidence could relate to theories about whether Steenkamp had gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet, as Pistorius contends, or was there following a loud argument with the runner, as the prosecution has suggested.

Returning his evidence yesterday about the nature of the gunshot wounds inflicted on Miss Steenkamp, Prof Saayman said it would have been possible for her to scream after the model was hit in the head.

This countered an argument by Mr Roux earlier in the trial that she would not have been able to shout out because she would have been left so badly brain damaged.

Yesterday, Pistorius vomited repeatedly in the dock today as Prof Saayman gave a graphic account of Miss Steenkamp's injuries.

Prof Saayman told the court how Miss Steenkamp was struck four times - on the top right of the head, in the right elbow, in the right hip and also in the webbing of her left hand.

Her right upper arm was shattered, the hip wound could well have been fatal, while that to her head would have incapacitated her immediately.

The ammunition used were 'Black Talon' bullets designed to 'expand and mushroom' to cause maximum damage, he added.

The bullets have also been nicknamed 'cop killers' because of their use by criminals.

No blood was found in her airways, suggesting she breathed only a few times before dying.

He also described exit wounds caused by the bullets and other abrasions consistent with the impact of a bullet fired through a wooden object such as a door.

Prof Saayman, who referred to photographs that were not shown to the gallery, said Miss Steenkamp had been wearing grey Nike shorts and a sleeveless black vest at the time of the shooting.

He said food found in her stomach suggested she ate within two hours of her death at 3am, which appeared to contradict the athlete's account that the couple went to bed around 10pm.

As the details were read out, the court was forced to adjourn twice as Pistorius broke down, his shoulders visibly shaking.

In between bouts of sobbing and retching, Pistorius sat with his head bowed, covering his ears with his hands and a white handkerchief in an attempt to block out Prof Saayman's testimony.

The judge questioned whether he was well enough to stay in court, but his lawyer Barry Roux insisted the athlete wanted the evidence to continue.

After lunch, his vomiting intensified and could be heard through the courtroom, according to reporters present in the trial. Microphones had to be turned down to reduce the noise.

Judge Thokozile Masipa had banned live broadcasting and tweeting of evidence by Prof Saayman, head of the forensic medicine department at the University of Pretoria, because of the nature of his evidence.

She announced the ban after prosecutor Gerrie Nel, supported by chief defence lawyer Barry Roux, said Prof Saayman's testimony would have an 'explicitly graphic nature' and should not be shown around the world.

'It's not a question of press freedom,' Mr Nel said.

Prof Saayman said the 'very personal nature' of his autopsy findings as well as graphic details about the injuries could 'compromise the dignity of the deceased' as well as harm her friends and family, if they are broadcast.

'It goes against the good morals of society for us to make information of this nature available' in a way that children and other unsuspecting people might be exposed, Saayman said in the witness box.

The 27-year-old claims the killing was accidental because he thought his girlfriend was a dangerous intruder in a toilet cubicle in his home.

The trial continues.

Cop Sues City Police Over Alleged Punishment For Reporting A Fellow Officer Who Ogled Whitney Houston’s Corpse

A Beverly Hills police officer has just sued the city -- claiming it punished him for reporting a fellow officer ... for allegedly ogling at Whitney Houston's naked body at the scene of her death.

Sgt. Brian Weir filed the lawsuit, claiming Sgt. Terry Nutall knelt beside Houston -- mere hours after her death -- and removed the sheet covering her body, saying, "Damn, she's still looking good, huh?"

Weir claims he came forward with the complaint soon after Whitney's death ... and was subsequently canned from his positions with the coveted SWAT and K-9 teams in retaliation. Weir claims he was also denied promotions and other benefits.

He's suing for unspecified damages.

Nursing Mother Sells Baby For N260,000 In Akwa Ibom

A nursing mother, Imaobong Udoh has been arrested by the Akw Ibom State Police Command for selling her three-day-old baby girl for the sum of Two-Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira.

Imaobong connived with a traditional birth attendant, Mrs Comfort Henry and a homeopathic Doctor, Mr Emmanuel Okon to carry out the illicit act.

They were arrested after the father of the baby reported the case of his missing baby to the police.

The police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, explained that  the buyer,  Regina allegedly paid N150, 000 to the mother of the baby and N110, 000 to Okon, the homeopathic doctor, for his services.

The Police commissioner further stated that the accused would soon be arraigned in court.
