8 Dead In Bombing At School Of Hygiene In Kano

A reported eight people have died in the explosion that occurred at the School of Hygiene in Kano on Monday afternoon. The number of fatalities is expected to rise with an undetermined number of  injuries at the site. The bombing is reported to be extensive, SaharaReporters has learned.

The bombing took place near a building, reported to be near the private residence of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar.

Abubakar since assuming the high post has worked tirelessly to upgrade Nigeria’s police force.

Months before the kidnapping of nearly 300 school girls in the Borno State town of Chibok, Abubakar said 16,000 policemen out of the 50,000 would go for Intelligence Training, while another 10,000 will go for Detective Training.

He added that the newly promoted Assistant Inspector Generals of Police underwent a two-week management course in Lagos. It is not clear if Abubakar, or his family was the intended target of the blast.

As for the explosion, so far no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. But many inside Nigeria suspect it is the work of the Boko Haram. More details to follow in this late breaking story.
