Rick Ross asks for support for Meek Mill, gives an update on "Dreams Worth More Than Money."
Days after it was revealed that Maybach Music Group rapper
Meek Mill would be serving up to six months in jail, Rick Ross has finally
spoken out on the matter. According to HotNewHipHop.com, the Miami rapper did
so via a statement released over the weekend.
In his statement, Ross touched on support for his artists and
says Meek Mill ran into “unfortunate legal issues.” In regards to Meek’s second
studio album, Dreams Worth More Than Money, Ross says they’ll try and continue
on schedule for the project.
“I created MMG years ago, my desire was to create a space
where the most talented artists in the world could be nurtured and supported,”
he said in the statement. “With that came a commitment. I vowed to support
these artist, through the good and the bad. Every individual signed to MMG is
not just an artist, they are my family. And with family you ride, or you die.
Yesterday, my brother, Meek Mill ran into some unfortunate legal issues. It
happens. However, his team, our team, will continue to execute Meek’s plan as
close to schedule as possible. His album is coming. We ask that the fans and
the media continue to support him and his music during this time. He’ll be home
soon. ‘Dreams Are Worth More Than Money’, and family is worth more than
Everything. MMG FOR LIFE.”
Meek’s recent incarceration has even spawned a #FreeMeekMill
campaign on social media with hundreds of fans petitioning for his release.
Last week, it was reported that the Philly lyricist was
sentenced to three to six months in jail due to a possible probation violation,
which may have stemmed from the rapper holding a gun in a picture posted on
Instagram days ago.
