This year’s Big Brother Africa season 9 reality show which is
billed to commence this Sunday, in South Africa has suffered a setback as the
houses in which the 28 contestants will be kept for 91 days yesterday afternoon
went up in flames.
This unfortunate incident may have forced organizers of the
continental reality show, M-net and Endemol to consequently postpone the 91 day
show indefinitely. The launch of this year’s event is scheduled for Sunday,
September 7.
The cause of the fire as at press time could not be
ascertained as investigations are still on-going to unravel the mystery behind
the fire incident.
M-Net and Endemol South Africa, in a statement said that “due
to a devastating fire incident at the Big Brother house on Tuesday, September
2, 2014, Big Brother Hotshots will not no longer be launched this Sunday
(September 7) as earlier scheduled.
The cause of the fire, at this stage, is unknown and
investigations will commence as soon as it is safe to do so.
At this stage M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an
alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production, however as this
production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements an
alternative is not immediately available. Every effort will be made to find a
solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show
will continue.”
The Big Brother Africa house is based at the Sesani Studios
in Johannesburg.
