Tracy Morgan still hasn’t fully recovered from the disastrous
July 2014 crash that claimed the life of his close friend, comedian James
McNair, and left him with severe damage to his brain and leg.
Associated Press has
confirmed that Tracy and Walmart have reached a private settlement regarding
the accident.
“Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates
and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably,” Morgan
said in a written statement.
Walmart US president and CEO Greg Foran agreed saying, “While
we know there is nothing that can change what happened, Walmart has been
committed to doing what’s right to help ensure the well-being of all of those
who were impacted by the accident.”
“We are pleased to have reached an amicable settlement that
ends this litigation,” Foran continued.
In March of this year, Walmart reached a settlement of $10
million for the family of McNair. Although Walmart had a judge seal the court
papers of the terms of the agreement, a lawyer who didn’t work on the case
speculated to the NYDailyNews that Morgan’s deal is likely “multiples of that —
many, many multiples of that.”
Seeing that Morgan is a celebrity and he hasn’t worked since
the day of the crash, he probably had a solid claim that the incident left a
longing impact on his earning power.
“Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was
involved in the accident. We are deeply sorry one of our trucks was involved,”
the CEO concluded in the statement.
