A man who
made more than 100 nuisance calls to emergency services told an operator he was
in a ‘secret place’ with a stash of guns.
Police and
paramedics then found Andrew Foster, 53, of Cheadle Hulme , naked from the
waist down when they broke into his home, Stockport magistrates heard. He said,
‘I phoned you to take the p***’.
Foster, who
is unemployed, was given a community punishment order with 80 hours’ unpaid
work after he admitted breaching an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) at a
previous hearing.
The ASBO had
been imposed in February last year banning him from calling the emergency
services without a genuine reason.
It was said
he had a history of making around 140 nuisance calls. Prosecuting,
Kate Gaskell said Foster called the ambulance service twice on February 4.
She said:
“He said he was in a secret place with the weapons and that he had 45 firearms. “Officers
attended, they could hear the defendant inside and they forced entry. They
found him undressed from the waist down.”
He was
arrested and admitted to police he had made the nuisance calls. It was said
Foster’s behaviour was down to alcohol and that when he was paid benefits he
would go on a binge until the ‘money ran out’.
Defending,
Shane O’Neill said Foster, of York Close, had a degree and that his brother was
a university lecturer.
He added:
“He lives on his own, he lives a very sad life. He wants to engage and have a
conversation.
“It’s really
getting near last chance saloon for him. “Paramedics looked through the
letterbox and found him semi-naked.
“He has not
had alcohol treatment before, he has told me today he would grasp that
opportunity if it was given him.”
As part of
the community punishment order Foster will have to undergo six months’
supervision together with six months’ alcohol treatment. After
sentencing Foster told the court: “Thank you for your judgement and leniency.”
