Tracy Morgan Settles With Walmart Over Deadly Crash

Tracy Morgan still hasn’t fully recovered from the disastrous July 2014 crash that claimed the life of his close friend, comedian James McNair, and left him with severe damage to his brain and leg.
Associated Press has  confirmed  that Tracy and Walmart  have reached a private settlement regarding the accident.
“Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably,” Morgan said in a written statement.
Walmart US president and CEO Greg Foran agreed saying, “While we know there is nothing that can change what happened, Walmart has been committed to doing what’s right to help ensure the well-being of all of those who were impacted by the accident.”
“We are pleased to have reached an amicable settlement that ends this litigation,” Foran continued.
In March of this year, Walmart reached a settlement of $10 million for the family of McNair. Although Walmart had a judge seal the court papers of the terms of the agreement, a lawyer who didn’t work on the case speculated to the NYDailyNews that Morgan’s deal is likely “multiples of that — many, many multiples of that.”
Seeing that Morgan is a celebrity and he hasn’t worked since the day of the crash, he probably had a solid claim that the incident left a longing impact on his earning power.
“Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was involved in the accident. We are deeply sorry one of our trucks was involved,” the CEO concluded in the statement.

Extradition: NDLEA Fails to Bring Kashamu to Court

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Monday failed to bring the senator-elect for Ogun-East senatorial district, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, before a Federal High Court, Lagos, for extradition hearing despite a declaration by the agency that he would be produced in court.
The agency, whose operatives had laid siege to Kashamu’s residence in Lagos since Saturday, said on Sunday that it had received a formal extradition request on Kashamu from the United States government and was coming to court to secure an extradition order on Monday.
Though Kashamu’s lawyer, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN), had come to court early in anticipation of the NDLEA’s declaration, the agency, however, failed to bring Kashamu to court.
Izinyon’s colleague, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede, who later came to court and appeared in chambers before Justice Ibrahim Buba with a fresh application, said the NDLEA failed to produce a warrant of arrest it claimed to have secured.
Though Oluyede moved his ex parte application in chambers and did not oblige journalists any copy of it, it was gathered that it was an application to restrain the NDLEA from further laying siege to Kashamu’s house.
It was learnt that Buba, however, refused to make the order but asked Oluyede to put the respondents on notice.
Oluyede, who later addressed journalists, said Buba had ordered the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), and the Chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, to appear in court on Tuesday to explain why they should not be jailed for contempt of court.
Oluyede, who accused Adoke and Giade of illegality, challenged them to produce the US extradition request for Kashamu.
He said Kashamu and himself were ready on Monday and had waited in vain till 12pm for the NDLEA to produce the warrant of arrest and bring it to court, following which he had to come to court himself with a fresh application.
There was no indication that NDLEA had filed any application before the court and the NDLEA’s case against Kashamu was not listed for hearing on Monday before any judge.

But the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mitchell Ofoyeju, in a statement on Monday afternoon, said the agency could not bring Kashamu to court because he failed to turn himself over to the operatives in his house.
Ofoyeju said, “Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu has failed to appear in court from his house where he is being closely monitored by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Cannes Film Festival ‘Bans’ Women In Flat Shoes

Cannes Film Festival has come under fire after reports that women were turned away from a red carpet screening for wearing flat shoes instead of heels.
The women, some of whom were said to be older with medical conditions were attending the world premiere of Cate Blanchett’s new film ‘Carol.’
A media source said the festival had confirmed heels were obligatory for women at red carpet screenings.
However the director of the festival said the “rumours” were “unfounded”.
Thierry Fremaux tweeted: “For the stairs, the regulations have not changed: ‘No smoking, formal wear’. There is no mention of heels.”
A note about dress codes on the festival’s website appears to reinforce his point. It says “black tie /evening dress is required for gala screenings” with no guidance on heel height.
The unnamed source said: “Someone I know was turned away for wearing nice flats, nothing you would wear to the beach. They were in their 50s. They told her she could go and buy appropriate shoes and come back.”
Asif Kapadia, whose Amy Winehouse documentary screened at the festival last weekend, also tweeted that his wife had been challenged over wearing flat shoes, although she was eventually allowed in.
