Gunmen yesterday killed 10
people and razed many houses when they attacked four settlements in Rim
district of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. They
entered Torok Gwon, Gwarama, and Gwarim, all in Rim district, the same manner
other villages within the vicinity had been attacked in the past.
The bandits shot their way
into the village as the residents ran for their safety. Some of the attackers were
said to be wearing army uniforms.
Reacting to the attack, The Majority
Leader of the House of Assembly and the member representing Riyom, Daniel Dem,
who is from Rim district, described the attack as unprecedented. He said there
was a strong indication that military men might be involved in the attack;
otherwise, the gunmen would not have gained access easily into the area because
of the fortification putting place.
“I can tell you
authoritatively that soldiers were involved, other-wise, they would not have
gained access to the area the way they did”, Dem lamented. He said those burnt
to death were mainly children and women.
