Three Mexican migrants were found squeezed together inside a wooden box in the
back of a camper van when it was stopped by Border Patrol at a checkpoint near
the California-Mexico border.
Agents discovered the illegal immigrants after a Border Patrol sniffer
dog raised the alarm when the vehicle was stopped near Indio, in the Coachella
Valley.
The trio were stuffed tight in a storage compartment beneath a bed in
the camper van. A wooden lid had been tightly screwed into place above them.
When agents unscrewed the lid they found three males, aged 17, 19, and 21,
folded over inside the box.
The vehicle's 23-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old female
passenger, both U.S. citizens, were arrested on suspicion of migrant smuggling.
