Iragi’s Government is about to pass a law to allow a young girl as 8 to
marry and have sex in the country.
According to the draft law, the age of puberty for Girls is 9 years. Also under the proposed measure, a husband can have sex with
his wife regardless of her consent. The bill also prevents women from leaving
the house without their husband's permission and would restrict women's rights
in matters of parental custody after divorce and make it easier for men to take
multiple wives.
Previous government statistics in Irag show that nearly 25 percent of marriages in
the country involved young Girls under
the age of 18 .
Various Women Right Activists/ Organisations have condemned the bill. They
see it as backward movement and abuse of womanhood.
